Sackcloth and Ashes

Sackcloth and Ashes

Did you know that starting a charity is the quickest way
to make your fortune. If you took the time to look at
the published accounts of the big charities in the UK,
you would be shocked at the salaries some give
themselves(plus perks). My idea for this poem came from
the film of "Tom Thumb" which starred the late Terry
Thomas and Peter Sellars as the two crooks who stole the
loot from the local bank and came to blows as they tried
to cheat each other when dividing the loot!!!!

Sackcloth and Ashes

Above reproach
The public perception
All charities hope!!!!
Many a billion
Have gone their way
Spending "your" money
In a simple way.

It's "one for them"
And "two for me".

When dishing out
Your charity.

They pay themselves
A fabulous sum.

A kings ransom
For everyone.

The millions you give
Is in their bank.

Earning vast interest
From which they take.

"One for them".
And "two for me".

As they give "your" money
To those in need.
